Infectious Disease Transcript

Our product records the contacts and exposures among participating individuals. Participants carry a postage stamp-sized device. The Infectious Disease Tracer database stores the contacts, measuring their distance and duration of contact.

Contact Tracer

A reasoning element interprets the contacts based on rules established by authorities. For example, COVID-19 standards define exposure as contact within 2 meters for more than 10 minutes. Authorities can use automatic evaluations of contacts, flagged as exposures that may benefit from medical testing.

Should an individual test positive, authorities could review a list of all individuals that were exposed to that individual. Authorities can enable the application to automatically notify all exposed individuals via e-mail, text, or via the application on a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. This autonomous tracing could replace or reinforce manual tracing efforts.

The application can be deployed throughout a country, state, county, city, or neighborhood. It could also be used within a company, church, sport or music event, or large family gathering. Spotty results, caused by unlabeled individuals would still provide tracing value.

Our solution orchestrates an autonomous reasoning element based on criteria provided by authorities to provide prescriptive analytics, a real-time analysis of proximity measures among individuals that includes a short time period aggregate of qualifying durations, and an autonomous communication element to provide suitable notification to authorized individuals based on an access grid of provisions, permissions, and preferences.

Specific technology tested with a successfully deployed prototype used:

Cloud deployment is a Platform as a Service. The Infectious Disease Tracer leverages RHEL, edge computing. Flexible data-driven rules embedded within edge processors decide which people-to-people encounters are reported to the central cloud database. Positive medical test results are transmitted to edge processors to provide alerts to participating individuals via a smartphone application.

The Orchestration of Cloud & Edge Computing Architectures

The prescriptive analytic application can construct a detailed history of qualifying encounters of each participating individual that may have been infected that includes, where, who, the duration of the encounter, and the direction of approach.

Dashboard Aggregator

The product exploits effective data strategies providing autonomous performance optimization. The user-centered design complies with the access needs of all users. The application moves beyond predictive analytics into prescriptive analytics leveraging practical AI and Machine Learning.
